Getting Started with Pentatonic Scales

2026-03-20by GuitariousTutorials

Why Pentatonic First?

The minor pentatonic is 5 notes, forgiving to play over most chord progressions, and sounds great immediately. It's the backbone of rock, blues, and pop soloing.

The Shape

In A minor pentatonic, the notes are: A, C, D, E, G

Start at the 5th fret on the low E string and learn the classic box shape. Once you have it, you can move it to any root note.

Next Steps

Once you're comfortable with the box shape, explore the A Minor Pentatonic fretboard diagram to see all positions across the neck.
