Blues Guitar Lesson: Cool Strumming And Rhythm Using Mary Had A Little Lamb

Published on 18 January 2016
http://bluesguitarunleashed.com/ - In this lesson we're going to talk a lot about 1/16th note strumming, timing and rhythm. To do this I'll use "Mary Had A Little Lamb" as recorded by SRV (pretty much.) A lot of people have asked for me to put a demonstration of my playing it first, then do the lesson. I've done that here in that I took the demo from the end and put it at the beginning for you. But be aware this can be a little dangerous and here's why - in doing private guitar lessons I've seen it happen thousands of times where I demonstrate something first, then we work on it in the lesson. What happens is, once I've played it, your ear will immediately grab on to it and create what it thinks is how that piece of music goes... and it will be wrong. Now as you get better, the amount of wrong goes down, and the amount of work it takes to get over the wrong parts and make them right also goes down. But for beginning and intermediate guitar players without a really killer internal clock it can be really hard to overcome that initial ear reaction to what you hear. So PLEASE count this out as you play it and count out loud like I do. For some reason, and I'll be the first to admit that I don't know what the reason is, counting out loud works a thousand times better than "counting in your head." I know this from experience with hundreds of private students. When they don't count, they mess up. When they count, they play it right. It seems slow and difficult at first, but that just means you need it more. So enjoy the lesson... and all of my other lessons here on the YouTube. Keep your right hand moving and keep the counting going and you'll be just fine on this one. Of course, for more blues guitar lessons, acoustic blues lessons, electric guitar lessons... you name it, sign up for my email newsletter at http://bluesguitarunleashed.com/ . Most of what I put out for free goes to that list and never ends up here. So there is a lot more available if you want it.
