Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question...
Q: In an article with Tony MacAlpine he said that once arpeggios are learned in position, they can be unlearned into new designated shapes so they are personalized and not limited to just one area. I was wondering, could you explain how to approach something like this? Thank you Andrew!
Aleksander - Poland
A: Moving arpeggios all over the fingerboard and tracking chords through keys - through all kinds of geometrical directions can sometimes get very overwhelming. In this video I will be showing a method of creating your own personal arpeggio shapes that can become designated shapes over the most popular major and minor chord harmonies. It's very helpful, although not entirely necessary, but helpful - if you already know a few of the basic arpeggio shapes before designing designated ones. Begin by getting to know the common one or two octave arpeggio patterns found in most of the guitar books, then move on to creating your own designated arpeggio shapes! Once this is done, you'll have a lot of fret-board flexibility when it comes to actually applying arpeggios musically.
