Q: I've been getting heavy into learning Jazz this year and I'm really digging into the scales and modes, and recently I came across a scale called Harmonic Major. I've heard of Harmonic Minor before, but never of Harmonic Major. I did a search online, but that didn't help me too much and I was hoping you could maybe make a lesson about Harmonic Major... A: Harmonic Major isn't a scale you'll run into all that often, but if you take some time to study it, you'll likely find that a few really nice ideas can certainly be generated from it. This scale is essentially nothing more than a major scale with the 6th degree lowered. And, I think you'll find, this scale produces several really nice chord types and melody possibilities for not only jazz, but several other styles too.
