This is a real classic solo. I remember this album coming out back in 1972 and I played it a lot! In my opinion it's the best record they made with Burn being a close second. Ritchie Blackmore's playing on this album is amazing. He was breaking new ground for rock guitarists everywhere with his classically influenced arpeggios and the harmony guitar leads, yet his bluesy playing on Lazy is still so good to this day! I've never heard anyone play that solo like he does! He was a huge influence on almost every hard rock metal player today including guys like Randy Rhoads and of course Yngwie Malmsteen. I consider him one of the most influential and groundbreaking guitarists in history. Learning this solo will be a real challenge for most players and most will think that the fast arpeggios at the end are the hardest part but for me even though it's pretty quick, it's still the easiest part of the solo. It's all those bends that are the tricky part hitting them flat or sharp is going to sink the solo REAL quick! I hope you enjoy the lesson and have fun learning the solo. I get a lot of questions about my sound so here's what I'm using: My amp is an Egnater Renegade head through a Marshall 1960b cabinet. I use a TC Electronics Nova System through the loop for effects. I also use a BB preamp on some lead tones and sometimes (rarely) a Boss CS-3 compressor. The reverb is from the amp. My wah is a Dunlop MC404 CAE Dual Inductor, REALLY great pedal! I also use a Polytune tuner which is fantastic. For this one I just ran the amp at about 3/4 gain and kept the delay to a minimum. It's hard to get that strat tone from the Les Paul, but I actually kinda liked the tone I got for this! The amp volume was really low, you could talk over it! My guitar is a 1975 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. I have Suhr Aldrich pickups on it. I have them coil split, but for this video they were in full humbucker mode. Folks may be surprised at how much time and effort goes into creating these videos. If you're getting something out of the lessons and can afford to contribute, I've setup a Paypal link.
