The guitar solos were played by Matthias Jabs who in my opinion is one of the most un-talked about rock guitarists of the 80’s. I really love his playing. He’s a classic “rock guitarist” with exceptional phrasing and a really awesome vibrato. He really makes the guitar scream! This solo would be a lot easier on a 24 fret guitar. That bend from the C note on the 22nd fret of the high E string up to the E note (2 step bend) is a real b%$*# on the Les Paul hahaha! and will really shred the fingers. I had to put on a 9 gauge string to get that. I usually use 10s. Anyways, there are some fantastic licks in this and some great harmony runs too. Overall it’s a real gas to play. I had a ton of fun making the demo as this has always been a favorite solo of mine. Whenever I learn a solo it always reinforces my respect for just how good these guys are and how easy they make it look! I hope you find the lesson useful and I hope you have fun playing this great song. I get a lot of questions about my sound so here's what I'm using: My amp is an Egnater Renegade head. This is the first video that I am using a Two Notes Torpedo Live. It’s a load box and a speaker emulator so I’m not running the Marshall speaker cabinet anymore. It enables you to crank up your tube amp but use headphones, or just listen at low volume through your monitors, so I can be rocking out and getting a great sound without bothering people around me. So far I like it! I use a TC Electronics Nova System through the loop for effects. I also use a BB preamp on some lead tones and sometimes (rarely) a Boss CS-3 compressor. The reverb is from the amp. My wah is a Dunlop MC404 CAE Dual Inductor, REALLY great pedal! I also use a Polytune tuner which is fantastic. For this song I ran the amp with full gain. It's just the amp and guitar with no pedals except a bit of delay and reverb. My guitar is a 1975 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. I have Suhr Aldrich pickups on it. I have them coil split, but for this video they were in full humbucker mode. Folks may be surprised at how much time and effort goes into creating these videos. If you're getting something out of the lessons and can afford to contribute, I've setup a Paypal link. If you can't afford it no worries, but if you can, any amount is appreciated and will help me to continue to make the videos.
